ASDA Chair Katie Mouser reports from the Royal Aeronautical Society (Australian Division) Aerospace Industry Symposium and Gala Dinner.

From inspiring conversations to celebrating industry excellence, this event truly showcased the strength and innovation of the Australian aerospace sector. I was very grateful to have the opportunity to attend, and look forward to continuing our involvement in the future. I was pleased to attend alongside Anntonette Dailey – some great representation for ASDA for this event.

Some Highlights for me were:

Embracing Neurodiversity Breakfast – A powerful start to the day, exploring how inclusive workplaces drive innovation. It was great to hear diverse perspectives from a thought-provoking and insightful panel exploring the importance of neurodiversity in the modern workplace, focusing on how organisations can successfully integrate neurodivergent individuals into their teams.

Huge thanks to ASDA National Committee member Lt. Gen. Larry D. James USAF (Ret.) for moderating such an inspiring panel and to BAE Systems for sponsoring this important conversation. One reflection that stood out: Mat Jones (Head of Future Business- Defence Delivery BAE Systems) reminded us that education from the top down is a great way to change culture and address unconscious or conscious biases around neurodiversity. Panellists included James Davis (Australian Army), LTCOL Philippa Cleary (SO1 Culture and Capability Army G1) and Melanie Kovacs (Safer Communities, Precincts Delivery Manager UNSW ADFA Campus).

Next Generation of Aviation Professionals Session – Hearing from future leaders was energising! Trinity (RMIT Flight Student) shared how much she values mentorship and advice offered by rooms like the one we were in, and fellow student, Harreson shared a phrase that will stick with me: "The next generation isn't just the future, it's the lifeline of our industries."

Gala Dinner – A night to remember! Congratulations to Gordon Pike on receiving his well-deserved award. During his acceptance speech, he thanked his wife and noted they are celebrating 53 years of marriage this year – Congratulations

I was also pleased to see such a diverse attendance at the event and truly appreciated Greg Hood’s recognition of both women and men’s contributions to the Aviation Industry. It’s clear that inclusion and representation are becoming central to the conversation, and that’s a positive sign for the future of aerospace.

Events like this remind us why collaboration, diversity, and mentorship are key to advancing aerospace. Looking forward to continuing these conversations and building on the momentum!
