Supporting the next generation of leaders in Australia’s space sector

The Australian Space Diversity Alliance (ASDA) is dedicated to building a strong, capable, and inclusive workforce across Australia’s space industry—from early-career professionals through to senior leadership. As part of this commitment, ASDA is pleased to announce the return of the Board Observer Program, commencing in July 2026.

The program offers emerging leaders and aspiring executives the opportunity to gain practical insight into governance, leadership, and strategic decision-making. Through participation as non-voting observers in board meetings, successful applicants will experience first-hand how boards function and contribute to organisational direction.

Board Observer Programs are a valuable pathway for professionals seeking governance experience, helping participants build confidence and familiarity with boardroom processes, strategic discussions, and organisational leadership.

Why participate in the ASDA Board Observer Program?

Breaking into governance can be difficult without prior board exposure. This program is designed to bridge that gap by providing meaningful access to real-world board environments and leadership discussions.

Participants will have the opportunity to:

  • Observe board governance in practice through attendance at virtual board meetings

  • Develop an understanding of strategic decision-making, risk management, and organisational priorities

  • Connect with experienced board members and expand professional networks

  • Strengthen future leadership and board applications through practical governance experience

To support learning throughout the program, each participant will have access to a dedicated board member who can provide additional context and answer questions outside of formal meetings.

Who should apply?

ASDA is seeking motivated individuals who demonstrate leadership experience, initiative, and a genuine interest in contributing to Australia’s growing space sector. Applications are encouraged from both current space industry professionals and those looking to transition into the sector.

What does participation involve?

Successful Board Observers will be expected to engage professionally and actively throughout the program. This includes:

  • Attending all scheduled meetings

  • Reviewing materials and preparing ahead of sessions

  • Asking thoughtful questions to build understanding

  • Completing a reflective summary at the conclusion of the program, highlighting key insights and future application of learnings

Important dates

  • Applications close: 14 June 2026

  • Successful applicants notified: 22 June 2026

  • Program commencement: July 2026

Participating organisations include Women in Aviation International Australia Chapter and Aviation Aerospace Australia.
