What a fantastic in-person meet-up at the Australian Space Summit and Awards in Sydney on the last week of May, coinciding with National Reconciliation Week. Supported by Momentum Media and Space Connect, the Australian Space Diversity Alliance (ASDA was named Diversity Partner for the event, allowing our committee members and founders the opportunity to speak at the Summit, crew a booth to talk one-on-one with supporters and present the Diversity Initiative Program of the Year Award.
The Empowering diversity in STEM panel with ASDA Co-founders Anntonette Dailey and Mei He included discussions on the landmark federal government review into the lack of diversity in STEM and actions. The review was based on data that suggested Australia needs to develop 1.2 million technology-related jobs by 2030, with women currently making up only 20 per cent of those with STEM qualifications.
During the Summit, the Alliance was part of a Sky News broadcast, where ASDA shared the need for Australians from all backgrounds to be a part of the space industry.
Four of our co-founders Anntonette Dailey, Jacqui Tyack, Stephanie Wan and Mei He went on stage to present awards to the brightest in the industry at the Australian Space Awards. Congratulations to Diversity Initiative Program of the Year winners Southern Launch + Koonibba Community Aboriginal Corporation.
